This article continues the Asset Management (AM) Gamification microburst that builds on the previous AI in AM microburst that are part of the Mastering AM Decisions mega-series. Prior microburst articles are outlined below:

  • AI in AM

    • Terminology & Concepts

    • What is an AI-enabled AM Framework

    • Precept to an AI-enabled AM Framework

    • Using AI to Manage Risk through AM Frameworks

    • Agentic AM Frameworks

    • Bridging to Gamification and Gaming

    • How AI Enables Asset Management Decision Making

    • ...Asset Management System Transformation (& the Lucent Edge)

  • AM Gamification

    • Introduction

    • What is an AM Game

    • AM Game Architecture

    • Foundations of AM Game Design

    • AM Game Design Steps - Operationalizing the AM Framework

These microbursts recognize the convergence of technology and asset management as a capability superpower. AI-enabled gamification amplifies asset management capabilities. Together, they form a performance vector—something with both magnitude and direction.

The AMP Newsletter articles listed above establish a foundation of terms, concepts, and instructions on how to design an AI-enabled AM Game. The genius of this approach lies in making the design process part of the game, spanning three activation stages: commission, build, and master.

This approach frontloads the first principle that asset management is all about outcomes. That is, asset management is a management discipline that does not focus on assets per se, but on the value that can be generated from and through them.

A common challenge to asset management implementation is adherence to management system rules and architecture. These complex subjects encumber the acceleration of asset management implementation and its benefits. AM gamification changes this dynamic, but success demands a clear understanding of how value is generated, that is by playing the game and learning, rather than reading and implementing an instruction manual. Although helpful, reading instruction manuals is not the best way to gamify asset management—which is essentially what the sum of the prior articles achieved. Hence the need for a rally point to transform this potential energy into kinetic value generation.
