Management Systems are like Orchestras
The management system standards developed by ISO are a major innovation in organizational management. This innovation coordinates management functions across an organization. When done right, an organization's management system can be used to establish a foundational rhythm for a symphony used to generate value, that is play beautiful music as if it were a well-practiced orchestra.
My introduction to this innovation was through the application of ISO 55000 – Asset Management standards. Specifically, through implementation of ISO 55001 – Asset Management System Requirements. This standard helps organizations realize value from and through their assets. This standard is organized using the ISO harmonized level structure defined in ISO/IEC Directives Part 1, Annex SL – Harmonized Approach for Management System Standards.
