If done right, in a world with no surprises, asset management operations are anticlimactic.  Everything goes as expected, but we know this world does not exist, and that asset management operations are not this boring.  In practice, asset management operations are very exciting.  They are where all the action happens, and where value is realized.

Asset management operations have good days and bad days.  By count, the good days will outnumber bad days based on what happens around and beyond operations activities.  Therefore, the desired Asset Management System (AMS) behavior is preparedness.  Preparedness is advanced through management systems and management system thinking.

The ISO 55000/1 standards promote preparedness through AMS implementation which climaxes through use of an Asset Management (AM) Framework, such as shown below:
