This article begins a miniseries titled Asset Management System Behavior. It will focus on the changes in organizational behavior that occur through the practice of disciplined asset management and resulting use of an asset management system (AMS). This miniseries will loosely parallel ISO 55001 – Asset Management System Requirements’ primary clauses that are:
4.0: Context
5.0: Leadership
6.0: Planning
7.0: Support
8.0: Operations
9.0: Performance Evaluation, and
10.0: Continual Improvement
These clauses detail requirements for an ISO 55000/1 conforming AMS. To understand the expected behavior of an organization that is using these standards, one must first understand the context established by the principles and requirements contained in these standards. The resulting AMS behaviors are as follows:
